A little bit of sunshine on the cloudy days!

My niece Sally came out for her 2nd consult of 5 different places. After hearing the somber news that her regular oncologist and the University of Minnesota said that there wasn't anything else they could do, we were afraid that the rest were going to follow suit. Well, Dr. Clary at UCSD couldn't have made this family ANY happier. He gave us a renewed feeling of hope and encouragement. After sitting with him for almost an hour and going over treatment options, we feel like we have a little more bounce in our step. Sally had hoped to get in to Mayo Clinic before her takedown surgery (colostomy reversal), but the soonest they told her she could get in was Nov. 10th. Well, Dr. Clary said he has a colleague and friend that works at Mayo that does the exact same type of surgery as he does and he is also HIGHLY skilled in his field and one of the best. His name is also Dr. Cleary. Pronounced the same only spelled differently. Anyway, he said let me give him a call right now and see what I can do. So as we were leaving UCSD, we kept hoping she could get ALL the consults in prior to the 26th of Oct. because that's the tentative date for her surgery. She is leaving on Tue for MD Anderson in Houston and then the following week Memorial Sloan Kettering. Upon her arrival home yesterday, she received a call from Dr. Cleary, he is seeing her on Monday before she heads to Houston. I can't tell you HOW thrilled and excited we are. We all feel like our prayers are being answered. Miracles do happen! We do know the surgery she needs to have comes with risks, especially when it involves removing part of the liver. But she has an aggressive, incurable cancer. She HAS to be aggressive and this is also what both Dr. Clary and Dr. Cleary have said. I told her when one door closes, maybe it's for a reason. Someone has other plans for her. They can give her some of her quality of life back. They want to do the liver resection and the takedown procedures at the same time. 1 surgery vs 2 surgeries. After she heals from that, she'll have to consult with a lung specialist to deal with the lesions on her lungs. She has 12 that need to be addressed. They're small but there still there. And when or if they do surgery for those, which would be laparoscopic removal of them, she would wait until she is healed and then hit her with more chemo to get the last of those damn cancer cells.

Sorry cancer, you just met your match! You have no idea at how strong this girl is and what a fighter she is.

Always keep your chin up! If we don't, we'll never see the sun shine or the stars sparkle 🌟🌞💙

Peace and love to you all!

I don't even know where to begin....so I'll start by rambling on, as I usually do.
